How a SMSF could cater to your individual goals will pay big benefits in the long run.

We’ve seen it all when it comes to Self Managed Super Funds (SMSF). We’ve replicated the investments structure of industry supers for those that just want to lower the fees they’re currently paying to an Industry super fund but want to keep the same investments.

We’ve generally managed accounts to retrieve greater returns than Industry Super funds. We’ve met with clients who need more flexibility, too. These clients want to put more into property or cash or other areas of interest that appeal to them. And that’s great!

We’ve seen many ‘outside the box’ methods, and many who have thrown the entire box out the window. But all of these tactics aren’t just random. They’re analysed, critiqued and reviewed to make sure it’s a viable option that provides great returns both now and in the future.

Firstly, the significant tax advantages of a SMSF is reason enough to consider a SMSF. It also gives you greater control over your money and your future. Don’t you want to be in control of your life? Nobody likes being told what to do!

A SMSF offers a range of Investment options and diversification not easily found in managed funds. Being able control of your diversification means we can work together to create something that fits who you are and works in unison with your goals.

The common assets an SMSF would typically invest in such as Shares and cash term deposits are not the only things we could potentially invest in. Some owners of SMSFs who run their own business purchase commercial property for themselves to self-rent. Creating better tax benefits in the now and greater value for the future.

Others have have become extremely creative in how they invest their funds, whilst achieving good returns and diversification at the same time.

For example, cheaper forms of property investments that don’t require loans, such as  storage containers, individual car parking spaces and boat moorings in boat harbours which they then rent out to generate income for their fund, allowing them to achieve a regular return from a small outlay property investment.

And there are those clients who prefer to invest in rare commodities, such as jewellery, gold bars and coin collections – all items that become rarer over time and predicted to appreciate. The downside to this is they can’t wear them out or play with their new toys – as the same rules apply to these items as it does to cash – they must keep these items locked away for safe keeping.

As you can see, there’s true flexibility when it comes to a SMSF. If you’re just chasing a reduction in fees and simply want to replicate what you already have from your Industry super fund, we can cater for you. If you want a little or a lot more control, we can help you too!
